Our client, a 50-year-old private school is seeking to hire a Head of Subject Department for their school based in Dubai.


Job Responsibilities:

Responsibility for Student Attainment and Progress

  • Identify causes of academic concerns with subject teachers and report concerns directly to DHTLA and DHSSM for behavioral & attendance related or STEP Team for SOD support.
  • Liaise with DHTLA & Inclusion Head for supporting and assessing students on the STEP register.
  • Plan and conduct / lead activities (in class, interclass, inter school) to promote interest and enjoyment in students.
  • Ensure the accuracy and reliability of data collected from the team.
  • Meet with subject teachers to discuss and implement strategies for raising achievement and progress.
  • Rigorously follow up on each data collection to improve levels of attainment & progress in the subject.
  • Respond to progress trackers for each cohort with a summary data analysis document, focusing on the performance of key groups of students and identifying suitable action points.
  • Discuss these at line management meetings and PPM to inform self-evaluation, improvement planning, and intervention.
  • Develop and implement suitable intervention strategies to address underachievement and extend learning.
  • Prepare and monitor the classroom & corridor displays of the subject.


Responsibility for Teaching and Learning Quality

  • Monitor and review the quality of teaching and learning within the subject area.
  • Develop the curriculum and evaluate schemes of work and lesson planning to ensure they focus on consistent and outstanding teaching and learning and are suitably matched to the needs of learners and the school.
  • Lead the review, construction, and resourcing of the curriculum.
  • Observe teaching and provide feedback to ensure ongoing professional development for staff.
  • Lead improvements in teaching and learning within the subject.
  • Appraise the performance of all teaching staff within the subject area along with the Deputy Head of Teaching and Learning.


Strategic Leadership for Continuous, Sustainable Improvement

  • Complete a Subject Review and subsequent Department Improvement Plan in line with the agreed annual cycle.
  • Develop subject targets for raising attainment within the context of whole-school targets.
  • Liaise with other middle leaders and teachers to share and collaborate on approaches that will support success in your subject area.
  • Provide information and support to the senior leadership team when required.
  • Identify and provide for staff training and development needs.
  • Prepare SEF of the department, attend KHDA meetings and report to DHTLA / Head of Primary & Principal with feedback.
  • Evaluate the use of all resources by students & teachers termly for impact.


Efficient and Effective Management to Raise Standards

  • Ensure that the subject area is adequately resourced to meet the needs of the curriculum.
  • Ensure that student reports and assessments are completed in line with agreed frameworks and timescales.
  • Attend all required meetings to ensure that curriculum needs are met, such as HOD meetings and academic coordinator meetings.
  • Schedule and chair regular subject department meetings and provide feedback to and from the SLT as necessary.
  • Advise the Deputy Head of Teaching and Learning on staffing needs in terms of recruitment and training.
  • Ensure all external communication is standardized and appropriate.


Additional Duties

  • Undertake additional duties as required to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the subject area.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Deputy Head of Teaching and Learning, Vice Principal, or Principal.
  • This is in no way an exhaustive list, and the Head of Subject Department will be required to undertake additional duties to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the subject area. They are also required to undertake any other duty as assigned by the Deputy Head of Teaching and Learning, Vice Principal, or Principal.

Salary: AED 10000 – 13000
